Kristen’s Raw 30th Awesome Giveaway – Free Holiday Book!

by Kristen in awesome giveaway

Even though I just had an awesome giveaway where I featured Jigsaw’s fantastic magnesium with SRT, I’m doing another giveaway right now.

This time I’m offering 2 lucky winners each a copy of my Easy Raw Vegan Holidays book!

The holidays are fast approaching with Halloween right around the corner, and I’m already planning my Thanksgiving and Christmas menus. As usual, I’m turning to my Easy Raw Vegan Holidays book for ideas, which offers fun, nutritious, and delicious recipes for the whole family. In fact, I just received an email the other day from someone who made my raw pumpkin pie and couldn’t believe how delicious it was. :)

Let’s get to it! How can you enter for a chance to win a copy of my book? It’s simple! Answer the following question in this blog post’s comment section.

What is your favorite childhood dish that brings lots of memories?

The contest will end Thursday night, October 6th @ 11:59pm. I’ll enter everyone’s name who answered the question into a drawing and announce the winners on my blog Friday, October 7th. (This contest is open to everyone around the globe, and if you don’t live in the United States, I will send you the ebook version.)

Hands down, the dish that always brings back memories is pierogies. They are a polish dumpling that can be filled with mashed potatoes, sauerkraut, or anything else your heart desires. Although not raw, it is part of my heritage. It is almost an entire day production from start to finish, but my mom, grandmother, sister, and I work it like an assembly line and make more pierogies than you can imagine. They bring back memories that I so greatly cherish!

My favorite childhood dish that brings lots of good memories is Yorkshire puddings with lots of gravy on them. I was born in Yorkshire and so this really takes me back. My husband and I have been eating raw for almost four weeks and loving it. I don’t think there’s much chance of making raw Yorkshire puddings. Any ideas?

Definitely my Aunt Belle’s four layer dessert:

In a pan, layered: graham crust, homemade cheesecake filling, chocolate pudding, Cool Whip, and then topped with rows of halved pecans.  She is famous for this thing and it was my favorite, pre-vegan Christmas dish.  I miss it.

    Awesome giveaway, thanks Kristen!

My favorite dish was white wedding (or birthday) cake my mother made using almond extract with bavarian cream between the layers! I still go weak in the knees when confronted with one of these, although I am far enough along in my unprocessed food journey now to know I can make an even more delicious raw version that won’t make me feel sick!

I stopped eating meat when I was 10 (29 yrs ago- scary!) & I suffered every year during the holidays as my family pulled apart huge bird carcasses and discussed all the organs that went in to the gravy. The only non-meat dish not drenched in butter at these holiday meals was boiled rutabaga & I grew to love this lumpy yellow vegetable out of necessity- and i love it still!

Hi Kristen, great giveaway! My favourite childhood dish that brings back a lot of warm, fuzzy memories would have to be my mum’s vegetable soup – she used to literally put our whole veggie garden in the pot (alot of vegetables), and then puree it into the most delicious bowl of comfort you could imagine! :)

My favorite childhood dish has to be my moms shepherds pie except this was not your usual shepherds pie. Instead of mashed potatoes my mom would use fresh ground corn and bake it until the top was golden brown. It would turn out crispy and sweet which was a great contrast for the veggies below. Mmm!

Must be Chili Mac. When my Mom worked on weekends my Dad would make macaroni, open a can of chili (I know, dont say it, he was NOT a cook) then hed throw in anything else he could find (can of peas or olives) then and add cheddar cheese & sour cream on top . I have yet to think of a way to make a living, compassionate version lol. Can you help? Please? …..following you on FB now, and I’m tweeting too!!

Eating at my grandmother’s house helped me fall in love with food.  She always had vegetables from her garden, made all her own breads and great desserts.  It’s hard to pick one thing.  Her rolls were so light they seems to float.  Her chicken and rice (chicken bog), her homemade mac and cheese, her mashed sweet potato casserole, her sugared peanuts, so many things — all amazing.  She is gone now and I don’t eat the same way any more.  But I still cook her recipes for family members and I still have my grandmother’s love for fresh food and her adventurous spirit in the kitchen.  She was always so forward looking, never stuck in the past with her food or life.  In another time and place, she may have embraced a different food lifestyle.  She lived to be 94 and had great health until 90.  I’m grateful to have known her!

    Hi!
My favorite food memories from my childhood are making two ethnic dishes in preperation for Christmas . My mom would get together with her friends and us kids and  the day was spent making cabbage rolls and perogies. The smell of sauted onions still takes me back to those days,  listening to the women sharing all the news  as they rolled and pinched dough and filled roasters with layers of stuffed cabbage smothered it with tomato sauce. We were taught the art of making these tasty little morsels and the tradition has continued with our own daughters. Hopefully I will have the oportuntiy to teach my grandchildren how to make these amazing dishes.

  • Dancerer

Italian sloppy joes.  There was garlic butter on the bun, and after putting the sloppy joe mix on there, my mom would add a slice of cheese, wrap them in foil, and toast them in the oven!  Yum!  We always liked unwrapping them and eating the crunchy bits of cheese stuck to the foil.

Favorite holiday dessert – Christmas rice pudding with the hidden almond and whoever gets the almond wins a box of chocolates.  I am 35 and it has been at every Christmas dinner, it does not matter that the additions over the years (husbands and kids) do not like it!  It has evolved with many different toppings, my favorite being the brandied cherries.  Unfortunately I stopped eating it a few years ago due to my dietary changes but I can still remember the taste  when I see it on the table!

Thanks so much for this awesome giveaway ~ Oh-my…this question is tough! Do I have to choose just one?  Probably Pizza – homemade… Mom made up several crusts & then set them out along with bowls & bowls of topping choices, so fun – lots of talking, laughing & some really fun combinations on those pizzas too!  A really close second… moms apple pie, especially this time of year, I can still remember the amazing aroma that filled the house as it baked! Amazingly… we’ve gotten more & more creative in our ‘raw world’ & have been able to recreate some similar ‘pies’ in the dehydrator!
