My 90-Day Clean Raw Food Mission – Kristen Suzanne’s Raw Reboot™ – Update #5

Helllllloooooo super star friends! Here I am…. it’s been over three weeks since I first blogged about My 90-Day Clean Raw Food Mission. Has it really been that long already?

Soooo…. How do I feel? Mmmmmm…. F*cking GREAT!!!!! Sorry for the language, friends, but tis true… I have a potty mouth. I say my potty words with nothing but loooooove though. :)

What have I noticed over the past days with this blissful and nourishing food I’m eating? This sublime life I’m living? Well, a few things!

Going out – I had a couple of moments where I wondered when I was going to get a break making food. Thankfully, the food style I’ve chosen is effortless for the most part, so doing this every day for every meal makes it that much easier. That being said, there are times that I’d love to wiggle my nose, cross my arms, and poof(!) have a raw meal in front of me. So what did I do? I went out to eat this week. We went to Chakra 4 Herbs (a lovely breastfeeding friendly place) where I met up with Karen Knowler last year… anyway, I digress (I’m feeling a bit chatty today)… I went there for some lovely raw foods. We ate lunch, I bought some extras to-go, and life was good. I’m going back Friday for more. Their food is heavenly. And, now that I’m officially calling myself a tea drinker (that’s a whole other post!!!), with Chakra 4 Herbs being a big tea house, it’s the best of everything.

What would I do, however, if I didn’t have a couple of raw places within a 30 minute drive? Well, I’d order raw foods online so that I could take a bit of time off from the kitchen (we all need a break once in a while, right?). My favorites so far are Pure Market Express and RAWvolution. UPDATE (1/25/12) – Although I’m listing Pure Market Express here as a source, I want to note a couple of things. In the past I’ve evaluated their food and loved many things and I’ve had a couple of things that I’m not crazy about. Also, I’ve heard of complaints about their policies, rancid nuts, etc. I only think it’s fair that I let you know.

Reviewing Intentions – The other thing I did routinely this week was to read over my previous blog posts about my 90-Day Clean Raw Food Mission as well as revisiting my 2012 goals, intentions, and notes about becoming a Total Ethereal Goddess. I keep these notes on my iPhone in the “notes” application where I can quickly access them all the time! Believe me – what a HUGE difference it makes to look at these multiple times a day. It stokes the fire.

Cut the cord - This was the official week where we cut the cord from the cable company and it’s been fantastic. I don’t miss it at all. We did get Apple TV so we can stream movies and documentaries and that’s been fun. So far we watched Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead and I Don’t Know How She Does It. We thoroughly enjoyed Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead… so much that I juiced the next day. I recommend it if you haven’t already seen it.

I love playing with the cinnamon, coffee, vanilla, coconut, almond, and strawberry the best so far – awesome in plain water, smoothies, raw chocolate, green juices, etc. Be sure to see if any are on sale when you visit the link I provided because sometimes they are in the At-Cost Special section. Not bad! I actually ate them. I learned from my experience with the sea spaghetti yesterday that a smaller portion would keep me much more excited about eating them. The spicy sauce really helped cover the nori-ness of them. The only issue I had was when they approached my mouth I smelled the nori which isn’t appetizing to me. However, Greg looooooved them and wanted more. He went on and on about the perfectness of the sauce and said I had to share that recipe with everyone.

Perfect post, as always! I love tea too! My mil got me hooked on it when I started dating my hubby (over 10 years ago)! Such a great daily tradition. I made noritos before and they were a hit! Yum! Everything sounds yummy, I want to move in!

  • Devon

All your recipes look yummy:d Had a question, though, about supplements. How do you know what, when and how much to take?

  • http://GreenMommyBlog.com/ Kristen Suzanne

I can’t wait to blog about tea in more depth and get readers’ comments and thoughts. :)

  • http://GreenMommyBlog.com/ Kristen Suzanne

It’s based on how I feel, what my food intake is, my goals (fertility? longevity? digestive? etc).

  • Terita Heath-Wlaz

The food looks awesome, especially the salad with the fresh dill, and that salsa… what’s in it? I’m glad to hear you’re thriving.  Have you ever considered a whole-foods-only spin on the raw diet? Or do you find it’s too difficult to consume enough of certain nutrients without shakes/bars/etc.?

  • http://bittsblog.blogspot.com bitt

Do you and your husband eat at the same time? When I am more raw than he is, we struggle with that. But it’s ok. Do you eat on a schedule or just when you get hungry? Ok, one last question, I remember you posted that you had salt-free cultured veggies and I was wondering how you did that without salt. Thanks! All the food looks great!

  • elainie

    looks so yummy!

  • http://GreenMommyBlog.com/ Kristen Suzanne

I wouldn’t want to be without protein shakes or green juice. I don’t think all whole foods raw would be a good choice for my family.

  • http://GreenMommyBlog.com/ Kristen Suzanne

During the day, different times. Dinner is usually together, if we are having the same thing. I graze all day. I bought the salt free at whole foods by Rejuvenative Brands.

  • Arlene

    Hey Kristen!
Happy New Year!  I hadn’t read your blog in a while and I’m catching up. Super inspiring start of the year!  Question – I noticed that you’re using JigSaw magnesium. Are you also still using Natural Calm Magnesium (Natural Vitality)?  I’m going to start adding magnesium to  my supplement list, just wondering if you have a preference? Thanks!  And please keep on blogging! :)

  • http://GreenMommyBlog.com/ Kristen Suzanne

I think a fermenting book I own might discuss it but the book is packed away somewhere.

  • http://GreenMommyBlog.com/ Kristen Suzanne

    I prefer jigsaw. :)

  • http://GreenMommyBlog.com/ Kristen Suzanne

Thanks for chiming in with your thoughts! :)

  • http://GreenMommyBlog.com/ Kristen Suzanne

I have a post or two about that if you use the search function. Also, though, I’d add that simply embracing a life of “simple” raw foods is an easy answer. Fresh produce, salads, smoothies. Keep it simple, buy locally. Homemade crackers with seeds instead of nuts. Raisins instead of dates. :)

  • http://GreenMommyBlog.com/ Kristen Suzanne

I love all teas, but I’d say it’s herbal more often. I’m a novice but loving my new passion. What do you like?

  • Ela

Oh my gosh, are you really asking?! :) I’m such an herbal tea aficionada (really, I’m a mild witch, I guess)… I have “standards” that are favorites, including peppermint, chamomile, nettles, rooibos, fennel. I also have some less common ones that I love.
Raspberry leaf is _amazing_ for menstrual cramps, especially when I brew it with ginger and licorice. Licorice is a great tea additive, but don’t take it on a daily basis for an extended period as it can raise blood pressure.

I adore hibiscus (it’s strong: just a few flowers go a long way)–sweet, tart, so refreshing and thirst-quenching. I like to make a bright red “rooibiscus” from hibiscus and rooibos. I added pomegranate juice to that and took it to a party–great sub both for red wine and for iced tea!

I love tulsi, and it goes well with everything.
I love to make chai with cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, cloves, black pepper, turmeric, sometimes nutmeg–and then I add tulsi, or pau d’arco (which doesn’t have a strong taste but is super-anti-fugal.

I could drink gynostemma all day–it’s delicious. I add rhodiola to it first thing in the morning–really helps with my anxiety. Lemon balm and passionflower are great for bedtime.

I can’t really do camellia sinensis because my adrenals are too whacked as it is and caffeine does bad things to my brain chemistry also! But look what a universe of herbal teas there are! Hope you don’t mind my enthusiasm–I could talk herbal teas all night!

  • http://GreenMommyBlog.com/ Kristen Suzanne

Oooooh thanks for the ideas! I’m sooooo new to tea (hard core coffee lover here) but thoroughly stoked about my journey into teas of all kinds.
Do you feel white tea is too much for you (adrenals)?

I’d love to try some of those you mentioned but abstain for BF and TTC reasons. Where do you like buying your herbals?

  • Sam

I have few questions on you. How often do you juice a week(3-4 times less?) I am bit confused about juicing that some advice not to juice and eat whole greens (not miss fiber) and some advice to juice to help digestion. What do you think?
I have seen in your food journal that you eat often (6-8times a day?) I was doing like that but then have read that it is better to eat in one sitting more and not having any snack or even having only 2 meals a day (lunch and dinner). What do you suggest?
    Many thanks for answers

  • http://GreenMommyBlog.com/ Kristen Suzanne

It depends on your goals and situation for both of your questions. I think green juicing is awesome and will never live a life without it. I also drink smoothies and eat fresh produce. It’s a balanced approach. If I were ill, I’d juice a shitload more.
Food, I have to graze to keep my cals up for bf.

  • Jen

Hi. Love what you’re doing! I’ve been back and forth the past few months trying to become more raw. What are your thoughts on food combining because I am too overwhelmed with trying to do raw and food combining. Any tips?

  • http://GreenMommyBlog.com/ Kristen Suzanne

I don’t concern myself with it much :) and my digestion seems fine.

  • Jen

Thanks for responding.  After some serious introspection, I think I’m going to put my energy into focusing on RAW and only follow the fruit combining rules (for now) to make the transition more plausible.  I wish the best to you in your journey.  Keep up the AWESOME work!!!

  • http://GreenMommyBlog.com/ Kristen Suzanne

Some people do very well w FC so it might suit you. :)

  • Sharon Carley

hi Kristen, I have only just (17/1/2012) found raw vegan food, i was just googling one day and stumbled on raw vegan and was truly hooked, the next day I went out and bought loads of produce and started my raw vegan journey! I will be 50 in May and very over weight, so I needed something more than my yoyo dieting to be serious, so when I read and read all about this new eating lifestyle I was amazed how many other people are doing it and their/your stories are so inspiring! Thank you for sharing. I look forward to following you in your journey.

  • http://GreenMommyBlog.com/ Kristen Suzanne

Congratulations and Welcome to the awesomeness of raw! :)

Dont know if this will help in eating more seaweed, I too sometimes struggle with its fishyness and one way I have found of eating them without problem is sprinkling dry seaweed onto  green salads and on top drizzling this blended dressing (orange juice and lemon, nutritional yeast, sprouts, and another whole fruit such as papaya and pineapple)…its reallyyyyy nice! :D

Have you tried the new sunwarrior powder? was wondering what you thought of it :), will you be eating chia seeds and quinoa in your new diet? Thanks! :)

  • http://GreenMommyBlog.com/ Kristen Suzanne

I haven’t tried new sun warrior.
I might sprout quinoa but haven’t felt the desire. I do have chia seeds in my applesauce.

  • Katie

I was looking into the Ejuva Probiotic you recommended, is that a powder or a capsule? I looked on the website, but couldn’t find specifics. Thanks!

  • http://GreenMommyBlog.com/ Kristen Suzanne

    It’s a powder

  • Katie

I’ve tried the new Chocolate Sun Warrior. I love it!

  • http://GreenMommyBlog.com/ Kristen Suzanne

So, it has different ingredients, right? Tell me more!

  • Katie

Yes it has different ingredients. The original Sun Warrior is made from Whole Brown Rice Protein, the Warrior blend is made from their proprietary protein blend which consists of Pea Protein, Cranberry Protein, and Hemp Protein. It has the same amount of total protein (15g) but it looks like the Amino Acid composition is slightly different, not by much though. I’ve only had the chocolate flavor mixed in with my smoothies and it is delicious!

  • http://GreenMommyBlog.com/ Kristen Suzanne

I like the variety. :) I’ll need to try!

  • Arlene

Thx! I ended up trying Natural Calm 3 days ago. My husband had already bought it – after reading all the positive reviews on Amazon/TRFW. Unfortunately – it doesn’t seem to be working well for me :(  Though it has only been a couple of days, and I started with a very small amount… right after I drink it (and I mean immediately), my stomach feels funny and digestion is not as… hum… smooth as it usually is. I may try it a few more days b4 giving JigSaw a try… I guess this is the thing with supplements – gotta try it or you’ll never know what works for ya!

  • http://GreenMommyBlog.com/ Kristen Suzanne

That’s very true. Some people do well with different things. The Calm stuff always makes me go “potty!” the next morning. ;)

  • Lisa25

I have tried the natural one only and I find it better than the original Sun Warrior!

  • Teresa

Kristen—–I loooooved this post …..your upbeat posts are so glorious to read. Today I just ordered the Vita Mix yaaaaaaaay !!!!!!!  Last week it burned out and I think for good reason too !! LOL
Can’t wait to get my hands on the Vitamix !!

  • http://GreenMommyBlog.com/ Kristen Suzanne

    Awesommmmmme!!!!! XOXO

  • Leslie

Kristen, Thanks so much for this post! I know these with the food details take a lot of time, but with all the specific food journal, it just pumps me up, gives me new ideas, and keeps me going!  Awesome!

  • http://GreenMommyBlog.com/ Kristen Suzanne

Really?! Ok great. Thanks for the feedback!!!

  • Teresa

I’ve never had a vitamix…….it was my basic Kitchen Aid blender that burned out.  Burned out meaning it actually caught on fire (Long story). ….. I can’t believe how excited I am for a Vitamix……shoes, purses, jewlery NO…… but Vitamix YES !

  • http://GreenMommyBlog.com/ Kristen Suzanne

I know!!!! I’m crazy for kitchen toys that improve my life and health. I haven’t blogged it yet but last night I pulled the trigger on the Norwalk Juicer!!!!! Holy shit!!!
