Jamaican Me Hot & Crazy Dressing – (VIDEO, Raw Vegan Recipe) – Plus Food Journal

Here’s a great recipe for the brave hearted. It’s got some mega kickin’ heat and it’s super duper delicious! (If you must, you can tone down the heat by omitting the habanero or using only a bit of it, same goes for the cayenne pepper). This recipe is great for romaine salads, veggie salads, zucchini or kelp pasta, and I recently used it over cabbage for an awesome slaw. I’ll bet it’d be fun dehydrated on kale for spicy kale chips.

You’ll see that I use cashews in the recipe instead of olive oil which my original recipe calls for… not only was I out of olive oil, but thought it’s a great way to share how you can swap them in some recipes. This recipe, and many other super raw salad and dressings, can be found in my book, Easy Raw Vegan Salads & Dressings. Enjoy :) (Updated food journal post below video)

Pint green juice …. 3 cups green smoothie (water, apple, sunflower sprouts) …. Tea

Kale salad …. Sandwich …. Tea

2 brazil nuts …. Raw choc mint pie

Nettles blend tea (this stuff is super great for helping allergies… interesting story... my allergies have been non existent this season so far, but Greg’s and mom’s have been pretty bad. I just counted my lucky stars. However, I had a sandwich as you see above and it had two slices of bread, hummus, and tempeh on it. Although the rest of my diet is still basically raw, that was the first meal I had where something was cooked in it. Guess what? Within an hour my allergies kicked in and I was sneezing. I wonder if the stellar raw diet was keep them at bay? Anyway, nettles tea is great for helping them.)

Kelp noodles with Tuscan Sun-Dried Tomato Pesto …. Mother Earth Chocolate

4 tangerines n 2 oranges …. Protein shake (2 scoops Sun Warrior)

Pint spicy veggie juice

I just had an appointment with a holistic doctor and she said that sneezing/ runny nose after you eat means you are allergic to that food. Not sure if it’s true, but something to think about……

Interesting about the allergies! As I said on fb, I love nettles! So super duper powerful!

Actually, it really is allergies in my estimation. It’s that season here and I’ve had the sandwich many many many many times without any problem. We were eating outside and the reaction was like old times.

Actually, it really is allergies in my estimation. It’s that season here and I’ve had the sandwich many many many many times without any problem. We were eating outside and the reaction was like old times. I’ve never had gluten sensitivities before so I highly doubt that’s it.

Gluten sensitivity is more complex than people think, up to 40% of people are asymptomatic, but since (I think) you were off it during raw reboot and then suddenly ate it could be a reaction. One doctor ( Dr. Kenneth Fine) found infants born to mothers who consumed gluten during pregnancy had intolerance across the board. The new research on gluten (Dr. Tom O’Bryan, Kharrazian, Fine etc; is really interesting stuff).

“A sensitivity or allergy to wheat can produce a variety of
symptoms in the body such as sneezing itching, rashes, watery eyes,
runny nose, coughing, hay fever, headaches, nausea, digestive
problems, swollen limbs or general aches and pains.”

I do have a question, does veggie juice that is home made have to be drunk quickly so that the power of the antioxidants doesn’t start weakening as the hours go by? I have heard that on different websites but not sure if true… Sometimes I want to take a green smoothie to work to drink at the end of the day but if the antioxidants start fading there really is no point…

There is a difference in smoothies and juice. Smoothies last longer… usually a few days if you want from what I’ve read. I would recommend drinking before that, but you get my point.
Juices are a special situation… the answer is that it depends on your juicer, storage, etc. For the most part, they start to oxidize unless you’re using a great juicer like a Norwalk or other slow juicer. If you use a centrifuge juicer you should drink right away. Check out the following links for more help:

I hear ya, and thanks. But, I’ve done raw diets before where I avoided gluten and when I went back on I didn’t have a reaction. I really feel it was allergies. ;)

Oh, my gosh. I love watching your precious mommying as much as the great recipe. Thank you!

I’ve been loving your bff kelp noodles recipe. Super delish and super easy! You understand your body better than anyone, so if you think you just have some seasonal allergies, that’s probably what it is. I do understand though why others suggested a gluten sensitivity as my ‘seasonal allergies’ decreased a TON after I stopped eating gluten. I had a bit of seasonal allergies this past fall and my doctor recommended incorporating local, unprocessed honey into my diet. She said that the same compounds in the pollen that give you allergies are in the honey, but in smaller doses and you are giving your immune system the opportunity to build up defenses against these compounds without being overwhelmed. I figured it was worth a shot and besides, our local unprocessed honey is the best honey I have ever tasted! I’m doing my first juice fast in a week. It’ll be a week long over spring break. I’m super excited and a little nervous!

This looks like a zesty salad dressing. It has an amazing combination of ingredients. It’s also Jamaican! Cashews are also used in this incredible recipe.
