Santa Barbara Acai Bowl – A Cool, Creamy, Nutritious, Raw & Vegan Recipe.

by Kristen in Kristen's Raw, raw food

Santa Barbara Acai Bowl

I dedicate this recipe to the wonderful city of Santa Barbara, CA, where I discovered Backyard Bowls (the inspiration for this recipe). Over the years, I had heard of acai bowls now and then, but I didn’t give them much thought and they weren’t prominent on my radar. I had never eaten one, had never even seen one in any local healthfood places, and the idea didn’t appeal to me enough to make my own.

Well all that changed with our recent trip to Santa Barbara this past spring! As I often do before vacations, I searched online for vegan food options near our hotel and Backyard Bowls came up as very popular. After reading a few of the rave reviews, acai bowls seemed like a great option for breakfast while on our trip.

Raw Awakening – My New Book – Now Available (on Kindle, too!)

As many of you know, my newest book, Raw Awakening was released last month. Yay! I’m really excited about this book and all of the recipes I included. And, now, it’s available on Kindle (I’m a big kindle reader. Actually, I read all books on my iPhone with the Kindle App – it’s the only way I can read which translates into a lot of reading as I snuggle with Kamea while she naps.)

I have a busy couple of weeks coming up with PR and radio interviews. When I get more details about them, I’ll be sure to tweet and Facebook them. (If we’re not connected yet via Facebook or Twitter, what ya waiting for? I’m a Chatty Kathy and love to connect, answer questions, and share good stuff on them! – Here’s my personal Facebook page that you can subscribe to as well)

So, if you haven’t grabbed your copy yet, hop on over to Amazon and pick it up here.

Raw Awakening Now Available!

Stay tuned for my next blog post… a funny story about Kamea. Speaking of future blog posts, I have quite the line up this summer for you with topics like: Running (me? ha – not likely… or maybe?), Quinoa (how to use it, and other things, as a great and easy staple), Dehydrating, Acai Bowls (the perfect summer recipe for the whole family), Essential Oils (they could be life changing), Giveaways, Nut Milks (my new go-to recipe!), cell phones (I’m asked all the time about my thoughts on their usage and whether protection is needed), and more!

My 90-Day Clean Raw Food Mission – Kristen Suzanne’s Raw Reboot™ – Update #7

I have more to say about my update but I’m short on time so I’ll post more thoughts later. Basically… I’m eating a high fat diet to keep calories up to prevent weight loss because I am burning too many calories. Most days it’s not a big deal but I do have some days where I just don’t want all the fat. I’d love some beans or something. But, I’ve kept with the raw. I’m second guessing my raw reboot during a time where I’m burning so many calories.

I’m more than 1/2-way through the journey. Today marks 49 days. I’m on such a roll but I need to listen to my body. I’m thinking the plan might be this… Keep going until I complete day 60. Then, I’ll start the second stage of my Raw Reboot which includes some cooked vegan foods, but limiting it to beans, lentils, tofu, oats, etc. I won’t include bread or pasta or refined foods like that.

Meanwhile, here’s my food journal…

PS. I LOOOOOOOOVE MY NORWALK JUICER!!!!!!!! I can’t wait to tell you all about her!!!!!!!

My 90-Day Clean Raw Food Mission – Kristen Suzanne’s Raw Reboot™ – Update #6

Shimmer shimmer… shine shine…. happy days… I am feeling amazing. From head to toe, I feel electric. It’s like my cells, nerves, and every part of me is glowing inside, healing, vibrating with an energy I can barely describe, but it’s just oh so beautiful… My transformation to Total Ethereal Goddessness is working.

It’s a work in progress, but it’s happening. How am I doing it? Is it just the awesome, effortless, pure raw food I’m eating? No. It’s not so simple (yet, it actually does feel that simple, natural, if that makes any sense). Yes, I’m eating an amazing raw organic diet (What is it now? About 34 days into my 90-day plan?), but that’s not all. For those of you who have been following my journey, you know I’ve been doing enemas, yoga, meditation, dry skin brushing, creating new routines for my beauty regimen, etc. But, I still have more. I want to do better with conscious chewing, I want grow my own food, and meditation needs mastering. One thing at a time though.

My 90-Day Clean Raw Food Mission – Kristen Suzanne’s Raw Reboot™ – Update #5

Helllllloooooo super star friends! Here I am…. it’s been over three weeks since I first blogged about My 90-Day Clean Raw Food Mission. Has it really been that long already?

Soooo…. How do I feel? Mmmmmm…. F*cking GREAT!!!!! Sorry for the language, friends, but tis true… I have a potty mouth. I say my potty words with nothing but loooooove though. :)

What have I noticed over the past days with this blissful and nourishing food I’m eating? This sublime life I’m living? Well, a few things!

Going out – I had a couple of moments where I wondered when I was going to get a break making food. Thankfully, the food style I’ve chosen is effortless for the most part, so doing this every day for every meal makes it that much easier. That being said, there are times that I’d love to wiggle my nose, cross my arms, and poof(!) have a raw meal in front of me. So what did I do? I went out to eat this week. We went to Chakra 4 Herbs (a lovely breastfeeding friendly place) where I met up with Karen Knowler last year… anyway, I digress (I’m feeling a bit chatty today)… I went there for some lovely raw foods. We ate lunch, I bought some extras to-go, and life was good. I’m going back Friday for more. Their food is heavenly. And, now that I’m officially calling myself a tea drinker (that’s a whole other post!!!), with Chakra 4 Herbs being a big tea house, it’s the best of everything.

What would I do, however, if I didn’t have a couple of raw places within a 30 minute drive? Well, I’d order raw foods online so that I could take a bit of time off from the kitchen (we all need a break once in a while, right?). My favorites so far are Pure Market Express and RAWvolution. UPDATE (1/25/12) – Although I’m listing Pure Market Express here as a source, I want to note a couple of things. In the past I’ve evaluated their food and loved many things and I’ve had a couple of things that I’m not crazy about. Also, I’ve heard of complaints about their policies, rancid nuts, etc. I only think it’s fair that I let you know.
