Bulletproof: The Cookbook … is COMING!

by Kristen Suzanne in review

Thank goodness Dave Asprey finally has a great cookbook coming out because I need some inspiration in the kitchen.

Who, me? Yes, me.

Enter: Bulletproof, The Cookbook. Yeah, baby.

As I type this, I’m eating a non-bulletproof rice cracker dipped in dark chocolate with cream cheese, pecan butter, and spicy raw honey dripping from it (and my chin – ouch, did I mention spicy?).

It was one of those weeks. No mood and no inspiration. I need some help and I’m looking forward to Bulletproof: The Cookbook to fill my mind (and body) with delicious healthy recipes that will make me bulletproof through the holidays (and all year long).

Recipe: Lavender Rose Almond Milk (Raw Vegan)

Lavender Rose Almond Milk

Lavender Rose Almond Milk

I was inspired to make this beautiful floral almond milk.

It was so simple… I had some almonds soaking to make a raw vegan almond milk. I grabbed my jars of organic dried lavender and rose petals. (I bought the lavender and rose from Mountain Rose Herbs.)

It was really easy.

I soaked the raw organic almonds overnight, and then let them sprout a bit the next day.

A lovely, calming almond milk.

A lovely, calming almond milk.

I put them in my Vita-Mix high-speed blender with a bunch of my favorite spring water, Castle Rock Water. It was my first time using spring water in my nut milk. I also added a pinch of sea salt.

At this point I added a couple hefty 3-finger pinches of the lavender and then of the rose petals.

I blended this beautiful concoction for about a minute.

I strained out the milk.

Now… I’m enjoying it.

Things I Bring on an Airplane to Stay Healthy – Salt Pipe and Bulletproof Coffee

Salt pipe, Bulletproof coffee, essential oils. What more could you want? #Travel

Salt pipe, Bulletproof coffee, essential oils. What more could you want? #Travel

When I was little I used to love riding in airplanes.

Not so much anymore. Either it’s because I’m getting bigger or the planes are getting smaller… or it’s just an age thing.

The days of getting excited for airplane travel are behind me. So, I try to make it as enjoyable as possible and bring a few comforts from home.

Obviously, there’s a smart phone or device of some sort for reading kindle books.

Obviously, there are healthy snacks like dark chocolate, avocado, sea salt, my favorite collagen bars, and anything else that I fancy like an organic apple, flax crackers, red bell pepper (just eat it like an apple), and… Bulletproof Coffee.

Wait, how do I drink Bulletproof Coffee when I’m on a plane?

My Travel Oral Care Bag

by Kristen Suzanne in beauty, Kristen Suzanne
My traveling oral care pack.

My traveling oral care pack.

I use a pretty extensive oral protocol to support having the best oral health ever.

I follow Nadine Artemis’ Living Libations 8-step routine (plus oil pulling many days a week). When I went to the dentist recently, I had “an awesome plaque score” according to the dentist.

Sweet. It’s working. My effort is paying off.

You can read more about the 8-steps in her great book and on her Living Libations website. (<– it’s under the tab “Beauty Care Articles”)

But, when I travel, I don’t take everything with me. That’s why you see just a handful of things in the picture. I have a small bottle of salt water solution (or sole) and I spray it in my mouth or on my tooth brush. I like the Wild Child drops because I share them with my daughter. Of course there is a tongue scaper and floss. Finally, I have a little bottle of oil I mixed together for oil pulling and a spoon to go with it.

For the tooth brushing part, something I use a dry, plain toothbrush. Other times I use the Wild Child drops. Sometimes I brush with the oil pulling oil. Just depends on my mood… I like changing it up.

This stuff works. I’m living proof. I have been using Living Libations tooth serums for a few years now, but ramped up my protocol to include her multi-step approach this past year. It creates a meditative and zen experience for me. The oils and products taste great and just feel so good on my teeth and gums.

I feel empowered knowing that I’m taking excellent care of my mouth… which means great care for my body since they’re connected. (It’s not all brushing and flossing though… I eat a LOT of fat soluble, vitamin-rich food. Ummm grass-fed butter, anyone? And, I don’t eat a lot of sugar.)

Yeah… I’m a big fan of Living Libations.

Na Pali Coast Kauai. Breathtaking.

Na Pali Coast Kauai. Breathtaking.

We went to Kauai this year for an amazing vacation. I can still remember the fish tacos from Al Pastor Taco Truck… oh and the cold-pressed green juice… oh and the Art Cafe Hemingway breakfast I had almost daily, and so much more. The lush verdant island is haunting me to go back.

Get Zen In Your Kitchen For The Ultimate Cooking Experience And The Best Food Ever.

by Kristen Suzanne in Kristen Suzanne, longevity, Meditation

I strive to live a life that is Zen (mindful, non-judgmental, and in the moment).

And… I’m a work in progress.

To tell you the truth, I started thinking about this stuff about 7 or 8 years ago, but didn’t become serious until a few years ago, when I made meditation a top priority.

Fast forward to today, and I’m pretty damn Zen. Most of the time.

I create a mindful presence in the kitchen as often as possible, because it makes for the best kitchen experiences.  And, would you believe? It helps me create the most delicious food ever. You’ll hear a lot of people talk about putting “love” into their food. I try to create “calmness” and infuse that into my food. (I put some love in there, too.)

Here are some tips to help you quickly get Zen in your kitchen starting today.

Recipe: Low Carb Fatty Green Smoothie. I Love Fat.

A "healthy" green smoothie.

A “healthy” green smoothie.

This delightfully fatty and low carb smoothie is a regular in my life. Who would’ve guessed that people would start going all gaga over fat?

The day has come. Fat is a star (healthy fats, of course).

You should make this smoothie.

It’s amped with nutrition… check it out.

  • Broccoli sprouts. Those are powerful.
  • Ginger —> anti-inflammatory.
  • Avocado is fiber, fat, nutrients, and helps us absorb the other nutrients in the smoothie.
  • Spring water is a no-brainer for me these days. I finally bought into that whole thing. Literally. I ordered a pallet of it.
  • Cucumber is hydrating and good for the skin.
  • Celery is tasty and has potassium and folate.
  • Lime is fun. (vitamin c, bioflavonoids, etc)

Go make one!

Recipe: Low Carb Fatty Green Smoothie

  • 1 to 1/2 cups spring water (I like Castle Rock)
  • Fresh ginger
  • Sea salt
  • Lime (peel and all)
  • Avocado (no peel… or pit)
  • Celery
  • Cucumber
  • Broccoli Sprouts!

Blend it up in a Vita-mix (<– A Vita-mix is worth the hefty price tag – I’ve had mine forever).

Surviving the Holidays. Seriously Good Tips. Plus Recipes.

A 2014 Drambuie Christmas Toast with my husband.

Drambuie would “not” be in the healthy category (I don’t think). “BUT IT’S THE HOLIDAYS!”

I’m sharing with you some key holiday survival tips. What do I mean survive?

Well, basically, some tips to help feel well during the holidays by not eating too crappy. It’s easy to succumb to the excuse “It’s the holidays” and make it a free-for-all, right? (Guilty.) But when we let our hair down too many times and go crackers (that’s another way to say “cray-cray”) then, sadly, we welcome a weaker immune system and lower energy. Sigh. Am I a buzz kill already?

No! I’m not! I promise.

We still need to have fun. After all, “It’s the holidays!”

Here are few tips to help you survive.

A Hospital Tour For Those Planning Home Birth

Questions to ask a hospital on a hospital birth tour.

Questions to ask a hospital on a hospital birth tour.

No. I’m not currently pregnant.

But, as I wrote in a post recently that talked about all about breastfeeding, I’m sharing some other posts from my old Green Mommy Blog. This is another one… taking a tour of a hospital even though I originally had planned a home birth for my daughter.

Well. As some of you know, I did end up in the hospital for the delivery of Kamea, but it wasn’t the local one I toured.

Here we go….

My Life: Naked Dolls, Qigong, Lemon Water, Matcha, Hot Yoga

Lemon water did more than I realized.

Lemon water did more than I realized.

Here’s a day in my life.

700 am Wake up naturally. Sometimes I oil pull at this time.

715 am Drink some spring water with organic lemon juice squeezed in. I’ve heard about people doing this forever. I never got into it… til now. I read recently that drinking it on an empty stomach does something to help digestion, which helps you better absorb nutrients from your food later. Interesting. Okay, I’ll try. (The rule is that it’s on an empty stomach and you don’t eat for about 30 minutes.)

717 am Rebounding to start moving, getting the kinks worked, blood flowing, and because it’s fun. (Bellicon is the best rebounder.)

740 am Brew Upgraded coffee in my groovy Technivorm coffee pot. While that’s brewing I get other ingredients ready to make Greg’s and my Bulletproof Coffee (Greg likes his in a cold shake form), or I grab my Bulletproof Frozen Cubes.

745 am Make Kamea’s breakfast (usually gently scrambled eggs – something like this)
