I find myself, way more often than not, thinking about food when I’m going to bed at night. I am either thinking about how I ate for the day with a check and balance effort or I am thinking about a new recipe I want to create or I am planning my breakfast for the following morning.
Last night I did two of those.
I knew I’d be going to SpinCycle class the following morning and taking my laptop with me to write after class (read about my perspective on spin class here). In those cases, I usually pack some form of fatty green smoothie. We were out of vegetables for a green smoothie so I decided I needed to pack a grass-fed whey protein shake of some sort.
Ok, cool. What should I put in it, I wondered instead of sleeping like I should’ve been.
I knew I’d need protein, carbs, and fat after such an intense class – that was my desire. I chose whey for the protein. I chose to add a bunch of raw almond butter – creamy and rich and has fat and protein. I’d want some flavor: vanilla. I needed some balancing of ingredients: salt. I needed some sweetness to make it taste yummy, satisfying, and to give me some carbs: raw honey. I needed some brain fuel since I feel a little bit mumbly when I leave SpinCycle: MCT oil. Great! I have a plan.
But, how do I remember this imagined recipe so I don’t forget it in the morning? In many cases, I simply type it into my phone, but my daughter was trying to sleep and I didn’t want the bright light to interfere.
Oh, I know, I’ll think of a mnemonic (could that word be any more weird to spell?).
Ok, here we go: HAMWhey.
HAMWhey
- Honey
- Almond Butter
- MCT oil
- Whey protein powder
I was only interested in remembering the main ingredients.
Excellent. It worked and will forever be burned in my brain.
Best part? It’s AWESOME!
Here’s the whole recipe…
- 1 tablespoon Raw Honey
- 4 tablespoons Almond butter (I like it raw)
- 1 tablespoon MCT oil
- 1 scoop quality Whey protein powder
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla powder
- pinch sea salt
- 1 cup filtered water
- ice
Blend it up!
Here’s where I buy the ingredients:
Living Tree Community: raw almond butter.
Upgraded Self: grass-fed whey, MCT oil, and vanilla powder.
