Immersing in the French Culture: We Took the Bus. (Digital Nomads Travel)

That’s my refrigerator in France after having gone shopping.

After walking into town the other night and finding an ATM along with survival food, we had plans to find the promised supermarket and mall. So, yesterday, we took our euros and braved the bus in Mitry-Mory, France. 🚎

Braved…. not really, but it was something we hadn’t done before in another country. We didn’t have tickets and hoped we could get on with money. Everything we were looking at for planning the trip was in French and that took a lot of effort to attempt translation… trying to figure out the times, the drop-off, the process, etc.

It was a gorgeous day though. We felt hopeful. ☀

We figured if we got lost, we could figure it out.

We Made It to France. Why Are We Doing This?

We made it to France. 🇫🇷 😀

I’ve always wanted to visit France since taking French in high school and college.

We took the Eurostar train from London to Paris which was a good experience. The St. Pancras train station is nice with plenty of shops and restaurants.

I bought a cup of organic coffee, figuring I could bring it on the train.

However, we needed to go through a security check before boarding the train.

Turns out, very cool… They actually had a cup holder in a security bin for my drink. It went through the security system along with my bags and electronics. :)

Once we landed in Paris though, it was a bit confusing. We needed to get on a train to get to a little town outside of Paris and it required buying tickets from a kiosk in Paris.

I was under a bit of stress after having landed in a crowded train station where everyone is speaking French and I speak a little but definitely not enough. I have a young daughter in tow, always a bit stressful on travel days, we’re lugging heavy backpacks and a suitcase, and there’s many blog posts warning about pickpockets in Paris. Plus, we’re on a timeline with people expecting to pick us up at our final destination. People who don’t speak much English.

I Wish I Were Still Eating A Carnivore Diet With Ribeyes.

That’s my obligate carnivore friend, Phoebe, on the Isle of Wight. We’re having a talk about all things carnivore.

I did an experiment starting in January where I stopped eating all plants. Yes, it was weird at first. Yes, it was great.

I liked the freedom I had with it.

Freedom with such restrictions?

Yes.

I found that the limited choices allowed me greater freedom of having to think about, worry about food. It was great.

However, traveling around the world with my family has made it harder to stay on the carnivore diet. I tried. It usually cost me more money and left me eating only ground meat, for the beef part of the diet. I prefer beef and crave it. Or do I just crave certain cuts of beef (like ribeyes)? I like the way beef makes me feel. However, eating it only in the ground, minced form… ack, not my favorite meal after meal after meal after meal after meal.

Denmark has been on my list of places to visit, because it’s known as one of the happiest places on earth. 😀

Who wouldn’t want to experience that?

In my research of Denmark, I came across a book that mentioned how Danish leave their babies bundled up, in strollers, outside, in the winter, UNATTENDED, while the parents go into a restaurant or cafe to eat.

It was hard to believe. Who does that?!

It’s true, and I saw it first hand.

(They also don’t lock their bikes either.)

Can we take a moment to think about what this says about the Danish culture?

How beautiful is it that people feel their babies are safe and they can leave them unattended? And, it’s not like the parents are sitting right inside with a window for viewing the babies. There are no cameras outside recording footage that is being featured on a Jumbotron in the restaurant.

No, these parents are relaxing.

Why do parents in Denmark leave their babies unattended outside?

I believe the happiness plays a key part. People are happy. People aren’t kidnapping babies.

Now that that’s established…

Another main reason is they believe the cold weather is good for babies. (I agree in that cold can be anti-inflammatory). They’re bundled up, yes, and the cold surrounding is a health boost. (I’m here in the cold weather and can’t say what they do in the warmer months but I expect they still do it, because what parents don’t enjoy some alone time during meals?)

If I ever have another baby, I’m going to live the first year of its life here in Denmark. 🇩🇰

Hello from Denmark!

We have had a couple of VERY cold days, or at least cold for us. We’re used to the hot desert so Denmark in late winter is cold! The past couple of days it was in the 20s and windy! We stayed warm inside, but walking the dogs? Brrrrrrr ❄️ 💨

We are looking forward to sunshine this week with weather in the low 40s. Yay 😂 and we will venture over to the city of Aarhus this week to visit the street market loaded with different vendors of food and beer 🍺(Greg is happy about that).

Kamea is playing with the pugs outside. When you run around outside in the cold, it’s refreshing. That’s a good way to look at it.

I found some meat, and I think it’s probably grass-fed. After all, a picture is worth a thousand words.
